Uttlesford is a thriving, predominantly rural district in north-west Essex encompassing Saffron Walden, Great Dunmow, Stansted Mountfitchet and Thaxted and about 100 villages and hamlets in between. We are looking for an ambitious, innovative individual, to help lead a team in our newly restructured Revenue Service, and create a culture that drives high levels of customer satisfaction; a value for money ethos; and provide an internal resource of specialist and practical legislative knowledge in Business Rates, Council Tax, and Fraud and Compliance.

This is a varied and rewarding role and you will be responsible for creating new opportunities for tax base growth in both Business Rates, and Council Tax. You will head a team of 9 members of staff, who you will lead in promoting an enthusiastic and customer focussed approach in the delivery of Business Rates and Council Tax Collection and Fraud awareness. The challenges in Local Government funding require us to adapt our approach to income generation and providing services. We are looking for an individual who can think outside the box and put in place new initiatives to generate income through the tax base and robust compliance practices to protect the public purse.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a member of a relevant professional body and possess an appropriate professional qualification such as IRRV, CIPFA; a part qualification will be considered. Experience in Revenues administration, or a similar environment is important. The successful candidate will be proactive, adventurous, and creative, have a proven track record of achievement and have excellent leadership, management, and communication skills, with the ability to influence, inspire and motivate others at all levels.
