Revenues Officer
Birmingham City Council
Salary 19,819 - 25,463  Per Annum
Permanent  36.50 hours
Leave 24 Days

The Revenues service is responsible for the collection of £850 million of business rates and council tax.  We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Revenues Officers, ideally with a history of income collection and specifically with experience of dealing with inspections in both the council tax and business rates arenas.    

At Birmingham City Council our Revenues Officers work across the Service; including council tax, business rates and our inspection team.  For our inspectors, the role is to grow our overall tax base across both taxes in order that council tax and business rates charges can be collected in a proactive and sustainable way. Applicants will need to demonstrate experience and understanding of the regulations and processes related to council tax and business rates including liability, discounts, exemptions and valuation matters.

You will be required to work both independently and as part of a team taking ownership of actions  to ensure the prompt, accurate and efficient billing, collection and enforcement of council tax and business rates, in accordance with legislation, City Council policies and procedures, and to meet required targets. This includes meeting citizens and ratepayers face to face, updating records, negotiation, dealing with complex cases, telephone calls and processes, offering advice and guidance to citizens and colleagues when required.
