NB18/62  Revenues and Benefits Training and Development Manager

Band 11, scp 35 – 39, £29,706 per annum

The Organisation

Shropshire Council is an agile organisation that embraces innovation to address the changing public sector environment, and puts improving the quality of life of all local people at the heart of everything we do.  The Revenues and Benefits Training and Development Manager role offers opportunities for the successful candidate to have a positive impact on the Revenues and Benefits Service, while increasing their own professional development and profile and furthering their career as part of a stable, well respected, and forward thinking team.

The Role

The Revenues and Benefits Service provides vital statutory services to the Council in the assessment and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates and assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.  These are challenging times in Revenues and Benefits due to

  • Increased pressure to maintain our high collection rates
  • The continued requirement to process benefit applications accurately and quickly
  • The application of different charging polices
  • Changing customer expectations
  • Welfare reform changes and the introduction of Universal Credit.

The Revenues and Benefits Training and Development Manager will report directly to the Revenues and Benefits Service Manager within the Revenues and Benefits Service.  This is a new role where the successful candidate will lead and develop a training programme for Revenues and Benefits Apprentices, and also develop other ad hoc training material for the Revenues and Benefits Service.

The Person

We would expect candidates to be ambitious Revenues and Benefits professionals with experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits environment who are seeking to further their career within Revenues and Benefits.  As well as having good knowledge of Revenues and Benefits legislation we would expect candidates to have experience of running and developing training programmes.  This is a great opportunity for a forward thinking Revenues and Benefits professional to become actively involved at an exciting time for Revenues and Benefits.

The role will be based in Shirehall, Shrewsbury.

A pay increase has been agreed by the Council that will take effect from 1 October 2018.
