Advert Text – Systems Support Officer

The Organisation

Shropshire Council is an agile organisation that embraces innovation to address the changing public sector environment, and puts improving the quality of life of all local people at the heart of everything we do.  The Systems and Support Officer role offers opportunities for the successful candidate to have a positive impact on the running of the Revenues and Benefits Service, while increasing their own professional development and profile and furthering their career as part of a stable, well respected, and forward thinking team.

The Role

The Revenues and Benefits Service provides vital statutory services to the Council in the assessment and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates and assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.  These are challenging times in Revenues and Benefits due to

  • Increased pressure to maintain our high collection rates
  • The continued requirement to process benefit applications accurately and quickly
  • The application of different charging polices
  • Changing customer expectations
  • Welfare reform changes and the introduction of Universal Credit.

The Systems and Support Officer reports directly to the Revenues and Benefits Support Manager within the Revenues and Benefits Service.  The Systems and Support Officer is responsible for providing operational system administration support in relation to the key Revenues and Benefits systems (Northgate and Civica) as well as other support tasks and reconciliations.

The Person

We currently have two vacancies within the team.

Ideally candidates would be ambitious Revenues or Benefits professionals with experience of working in a Revenues or Benefits environment who are seeking to further their career within Revenues and Benefits.  A good knowledge of Revenues or Benefits legislation would be an advantage as would knowledge of our key IT systems (Northgate and Civica).  The successful candidate will help to drive through our change programme for the Revenues and Benefit Service.  This is a great opportunity for a forward thinking professional to become actively involved at an exciting time for Revenues and Benefits.

The role will be based in Shirehall, Shrewsbury.
